Jubilee Weekend success
7th June 2022
Thank you to all who attended the jubilee weekend events and took the time to decorate their houses and make Hethersgill the smartest village in the land.
On Wednesday 1st June around 150 people came and enjoyed fish and chips - the weather was kind and it was great to see everyone spending time catching up and getting to know each other. The exhibition that was put together by members of the social committee was very popular and it was nice to see the Queen enjoyed plenty of selfie moments!
On Thursday the scouts did a fabulous job building the beacon which was lit at 9.45pm. Catherine Edwards played a specially commissioned tune on the bagpipes which gave an incredible atmosphere and added to the unique occasion. From our vantage point we could see the beacons at Criffel and at Langholm and we are sure that ours could be seen for miles too.
Sundays service of thanksgiving led by Bishop John was very well attended and that was followed by a blessing of the jubilee tree that was bought and panted by the Parish Council. The tea and cake that followed in the hall was delicious - thank you to the church wardens for providing that.
